Meet Tracy Smalls- Black History Authors 2 Read Edition

    Tracy Smalls

Hello, my name is Tracy Smalls-Deleston, a native of Charleston, SC.  Enjoying everyday life with my loved ones, family and friends are my favorite pastime.  It stimulates my mind and inspires me to be a blessing to others, sharing my trials and tribulations and how my faith in God got me through.  My life testimonies, the traumas as well as the victories are destined to encourage females of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds.

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

The most important element in writing in my opinion is making sure I captivate the hearts of the reader. It’s also important to make sure your writing is interesting, and one can visualize and relate to the content.

What time of the day do you usually write?  Describe a typical writing day.

Typically, I don’t have a particular time of the day to write.  It’s spontaneous for me.  Whenever something comes to mind, I jot it down in my journal and compile it later.  Most of my writings are based on my life experiences and I’m compassionate to share with others.

What was the first book to make you cry?

My first book made me cry, “Overcoming Destructive Relationships”.  It was a reminder of everything I endured, it made me stronger, and I am now able to help others.

What inspired the idea for your book?

My inspiration for writing “Breaking the Chains of a Narcissist” was my previous marriage.  My desire was to share my  experience with others, so that they could know the signs of a narcissistic person.  People need to know what to look for and not fall victim to a Narcissist.

What would you like to say to your readers?

To my readers, I say, “everyone is purposely made”!  Life challenges happen, but with a healthy mind you will be in control of your healthy life.  Pursue your goals and dreams even when life strips you of your heart’s desires for just a while you must keep on pushing.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

I don’t hide any secrets in my books, but the people who know me will know that I am talking about myself and what I went through growing up stuttering, without me saying anything.

What was your favorite children’s book?

    Three Little Bears

If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?

I don’t think I could or would change anything in my childhood, what I went through, is what helped me to be able to write with such compassion.

What would you like to say to the readers?

Never underestimate your story and the comfort it could bring to others. It’s your story and you should be the one to tell it. Every 1 Voice Matters and that includes yours.

Meet Colleen Williams- Black History Authors 2 Read Edition

    Colleen Williams

Colleen Williams ‘aka’ Empress is rising from the ashes of abuse, born in the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago, now living in New Jersey. As a victim of Domestic violence herself she is determined to shine a light on the subject that gets swept under the rug. For the sake of her son, she made a promise to do better and to provide a better life for him.

How long have you been writing or when did you start?
I've been writing since age 9 but I got serious 10 years ago. I had a story to tell and a message to send.

What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?
Don't ever give up, despite what anyone tells you. This is your dream, your book, your work. Ask questions. Give it all you got. Also, make Google and Youtube your best friend.

How do you balance your writing time with the rest of your schedule?
Well I love my job. It's very laid back. I'm always in a quiet spot on my job. So I use that time to gather my thoughts and write. My boss really supports me in my writing career so sometimes he allows me to bring my laptop in because he knows what I'm doing. My schedule is very laid back. I adjust it to what matters most to me.

What’s your favorite and least favorite part of publishing?
My favorite part of publishing is sharing my story with the world. Someone somewhere will see my book. Pick it up. Read it. It can change their life. My least part of publishing is not getting my work in front of the right audience.

What would you like to say to your readers?
For all the readers who keep reading, I hope you will be able to grab a copy of my work and I hope my book can become a favorite of yours.
